PROF. OKEY ONUCHUKU

I was born in Zaria, Kaduna State on 25th June 1966, and hold an Honours Degree in Business Management from the University of Maiduguri, Borno state, Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria Kaduna State and PhD in Management from the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (A.T.B.U), Bauchi. I started my academic career in 2001 as an Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Business Administration, Faculty of Management Sciences, University of Abuja; I was promoted to the rank of Lecturer II in 2004; by dint of hard work, I was granted accelerated promotion by the governing Council of the University to the rank of Lecturer I in 2006 and subsequently, became a Senior Lecturer in 2013 and Associate Professor in 2016. I became a Professor of Business Management in 2019 (but subject to external assessment) with many National and International publications to my credit.

I have published widely in many academic journals, written a number of text books and contributed chapters in a book of reading and referred distance learning materials including monographs and technical/research reports. I have presented more than 20 Conference Papers within and outside Nigeria, which include the 2nd International Conference on Business, Economics and Finance (ICBEF 2019) Organised by the University of Brunei Darussalam (UBD) School of Business and Economics, Brunei; the 3rd & 4th African Arts and Crafts Expo (AFAC) organized by the National Council for Arts and Culture and the 5th Asia-Pacific Business Research Conference organized by the World Business Institute (WBI), Australia which took place in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Others include the 20th International Business Information Management Association (IBIMA) Conference on Entrepreneurship Vision 2020: Innovation, Development Sustainability, and Economic Growth in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and the 12th National Conference on Leadership, Security and National Development Organized by the Academy of Management Nigeria at Nile University of Nigeria among others. I have also attended many important conferences/workshops within and outside the country among which include the 11th International Conference and Workshops on Quality Assurance in Higher Education in Africa (ICQAHEA) organized by Global University Network for innovation in Collaboration with NUC and others in Nigeria; Basic Computer Training; Automated Results Computation Software Training and E-Tutorship, Training the Trainers Workshop among others.

I am a member of many professional bodies which includes; Fellow of the Institute of Business Diplomacy and Financial Management (FBDFM); Fellow of the Institute of Management Consultants (FIMC); Fellow of the Institute of Policy Management Development (FIPMD); Fellow of the Institute of Corporate Administration (FCAI) of Nigeria; Member, Academy of Management (U.S.A); Member, Academy of International Business (U.S.A); Member, European Centre for Research and Training (U.K); Member, International Journal of Multi-disciplinary Research Academy (India); Member, Nigeria Institute of Management (NIM); Member, The Academy of Management Nigeria (TAMN); Member, National Institute of Marketing of Nigeria (NIMN) and Member, International Institute for the Study of Election and Election Management (IISEEM) among others.

My public service experience includes teaching, educational consultancy and feasibility studies particularly, in marketing related studies and renewable energy systems. Among studies conducted are; National survey of most outstanding product in Nigeria; Survey of R&D Results and Inventions in Research Centers and Tertiary Institutions in Nigeria; Survey of Existing Energy Manpower in Nigeria; National Survey of Renewable Energy Systems Deployed in Nigeria; International Study Report on the Development of a Capacity Building and Public Participation Plan (Vols. 1, 2 & 3): A World Bank and UNDP joint sponsored project; Research Report on the establishment of Centre for Development Studies, University of Abuja; Report on the problems confronting Postgraduate School and a survey report on University of Abuja Ventures LTD.

I was a member of the National University Commission’s (NUC) Ad-hoc Accreditation Panel to evaluate M. Sc. and MBA Management programmes at the University of Port Harcourt, Rivers State and also part of a similar team to Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) in Ogbomoso, Osun State for the Accreditation of M. Tech. Transport Management programme. I participated in the Resource Verification exercise on Assessment of Human and Material Resources in readiness for the establishment of Postgraduate Programmes in Business Administration discipline at Adeleke University, Ede, Osun State; Crescent University, Abeokuta, Ogun State and Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo State. I also was part of the selection Team that conducted Oral Interviews for shortlisted applicants on the award of 2019 M.Sc. /Ph.D. PTDF Scholarship in the South-West Zonal Interview Centre which took place at the University of Ibadan, Oyo State.

I am currently the Director, Centre for Distance Learning and Continuing Education (CDL&CE), University of Abuja and formerly Director, University of Abuja Ventures Limited; Deputy Dean, Postgraduate School of the University of Abuja and one time Head of Business Administration Department, Faculty of Management Sciences, University of Abuja and also, the Editor-in-Chief, Abuja Journal of Business and Management (AJBAM). I am member of UniAbuja Management and the Coordinator for the Ph.D. (Business Administration) programme of the Department of Business Administration. I was at one time Chairman, Postgraduate School Results Vetting Committee; Chairman, Curriculum Review Committee for the Postgraduate and Undergraduate Programmes in Business Administration; Examination Officer of the department; Programme Coordinator for the Centre of Distance Learning (CDL); Level Coordinator, Students Staff-Adviser and Secretary, Departmental meeting and possessed membership of various university Management and Council Committees and supervised not less than 2000 postgraduate students (Postgraduate Diploma/M.Sc./M.B.A & Ph.D. Candidates).

I am married with children.
